How To Add Google Analytics To Your Squarespace Website

If you're like most business owners, you want to track your website's performance and see how well you're doing online. Thankfully, adding Google Analytics to your Squarespace website is a breeze! In this post, I'll show you how to get set up in minutes. So sit back, relax, and let me show you how it's done.

Google analytics is a web analytics tool that enables you to get detailed reports on how visitors are using your Squarespace website. Squarespace does have it’s own analytics dashboard that is extremely easy to understand but don’t snooze on adding Google Analytics also. Both compliment the other and are very useful.

Visit the Google Analytics Website.

If you do not have a Google account set up, you will have to do that first.

Creating Your Website Property

1. Click on Admin in the lower left corner

2. In the Property Column, Click “Create Property”

3. In Property Setup, enter your website nickname. I typically title the property with the Company Name. Then click on “Show advanced options”

4. If you also want a UA (Universal Analytics) property, toggle on the “Create Universal Analytics Property”. Note: Universal Analytics will no longer process new data in standard properties beginning July 1, 2023.

5. Enter your domain and select to create both a UA and GA4 properties as well as check the box for enabling enhanced measurement. Then click “Next”.

6. Select your industry, business size, and your goals for using Google Analytics and click Next.

Viola!

Now you have your Measurement ID to add in your Squarespace website.

Adding your Measurement ID to your Squarespace Website

1. Once you are logged into your dashboard, Click on “Settings”, then “Advanced”, and then Click on “External API Keys”

2. Enter your GA4/UA IDs in the box under Google Analytics. If you are adding both, just be sure the property IDs are separated by a comma.

3. Click Save

Bing Bam, you’re a Pro!

You are now set up to receive metrics in Google for your website. When you first set up Google Analytics, it usually takes up to 24 to 48 hours to show your website traffic.
